When we were kids, exercise wasn't really a concept, it was just something that happened to us. We didn't think about getting our reps in our training, we just went on little adventures that somehow expended calories. There was no "going to pilates," there was "Whoever gets to the creek last has to eat an earthworm." And it worked. I could run around the whole day and sleep a dreamless sleep at night. And it was fun, it wasn't work at all. Now, finding the motivation to go to the gym can feel like trying to fish out the last Pringle from the bottom of the can.
Maybe we need to bring some of that childhood energy to our workouts. Instead of lifting weights, let's build a pillow fort out of really heavy pillows. If someone opened a gym with that philosophy, I would be their first member. Then, we could all look at memes together.
