Funko Fusion, the upcoming Funko Pop-based, pop culture-fueled co-op action game from developer 10:10 Games, made quite a splash when it was first announced just over one year ago. And why wouldn't it? After the stratospheric success of the LEGO game franchise and its countless crossovers with huge franchises, the Funko Pop toy folks following the same path could prove to be an incredibly smart move.
And make no mistake: Funko Fusion is definitely bringing the pop-culture franchise thunder. IGN recently revealed its September 13 release date along with the news that over 20 famous franchises would be joining the Funko party, including Jurassic World, Back to the Future, Masters of the Universe, JAWS, Shaun of the Dead, Chucky, The Thing, Battlestar Galactica, Umbrella Academy, The Walking Dead, Invincible, and many more.
With less than four months to go until it's in players' hands, IGN's metrics suggest that gamers are paying close attention to this one. To wit:
We're looking forward to our first chance to play Funko Fusion, which should happen sooner rather than later. In the meantime, look out for some new exclusive gameplay at IGN Live, our upcoming in-person (and livestreamed) event next month (get tickets here). Also be sure to enjoy the screenshots showing off some of the Funko-fied pop-culture franchises in the gallery above, and stay tuned to IGN for more from IGN Next – it's our new series where we spotlight games that light up our charts that we think you’ll be interested in. Stay tuned for more IGN Next posts soon, and if you missed the first in this series, check out our IGN Next look at the time-traveling, Back-to-the-Future-meets-Army-of-Darkness medieval action-strategy game Kingmakers. And don't miss our previous IGN Next, which dove into the creative insanity of Squirrel With a Gun.
Ryan McCaffrey is IGN's executive editor of previews and host of both IGN's weekly Xbox show, Podcast Unlocked, as well as our monthly(-ish) interview show, IGN Unfiltered. He's a North Jersey guy, so it's "Taylor ham," not "pork roll." Debate it with him on Twitter at @DMC_Ryan.
