The Disney princesses have gotten a lot of slack over the years for not having enough agency and relying on men. While that's narratively true for some princesses (Snow White, Aurora, and Pocahontas come to mind), I would argue that Disney princes rely much more on the princesses in the real world. Think about it…how many Disney princess movies make the prince equally or more enjoyable than their princess? The only one I can think of is Aladdin, so I suppose naming the movie Aladdin was a good call. Tangled and Frozen also have strong male leads, but even Kristoph is paling in comparison to the impact of Elsa. Cinderella's prince? Prince Phillip? John Smith? They are all bland and lame, and nobody cares about them. At least they made Cinderella's Prince have a personality in the straight-to-video sequel. If you don't care about Disney princes in the slightest, these Disney memes have enough princess content to go around.
